Tailgate Toss Game

August 26, 2009 by softballguy22

A game that is becoming more and more popular is a game that me and my friends from my softball team have been playing for a while now. It is an easy game to play and can be played drunk (which seems to be the preferance of my team) or sober. You can play this game no mmatter what your skill level is. Scoring in the game is as simple as landing the bean bag that you are tossing onto a 2′x4′ board, usually made of plywood.

We learned of this game on one of our trips to Colorado and have taken the game with us wherever we go since. It is so easy to carry around and so much fun. We will spend hours playing this game. Since softball teams usually carry twelve players, we automatically have six teams just playing on our ball team. Usually other teams want to join our competition, so we will end up with more teams and have a little tournament with each team kicking in maybe a ten dollar bill to the winner.

This game can be played anywhere that you can find 30′ of clear space. The first time we played it, it got so noisy from all the fun that the neighbors called the police. We had to move it inside the cabin that we were renting for the weekend. The cabin was open to the second florr so we had enough room to toss the bags high enough to get them to land the board.sacs

The basic idea of the game is to have two teams of two players playing at the same time. Teamates throw at opposite boards, placed 27′ away from each other. The two opponents take turns throwing onto the board until the total of 8 bags have been thrown. If the bag goes through the hole in the board, you receive three points. If the bag lands on the board, you receive 1 point. You continue play untill one team reaches 21 ,or more at your agreed destination, points and is declared the winner.

There are two ways you can score. One way has every score bag being counted. The other way has the team that scores the most during a round scoring only the amount greater than the opponent. For example, if team #1 throws a bag through the hole and it is the only score bag that they throw, and the team #2 throws two bags that land on the board for 1 point each, team #1 scores one point for the round. You would then continue with the next round untill a winner is declared. click here to get your game and other games today.

New Shirts

My softball team recently bought new shirts for the ,who knows how many, time. We decided that we were gonna have a new logo made this time. Before, our logo was a simple purple and lime green top hat, fashioned after the top hat worn by Dr Suess’s Cat in The Hat.inside the hound

As much as we loved this logo, we were looking for something newer and bolder. Our team, if you know us, is very loud and in your face so to speak. We decided on having 301 Sports http://www.301sportsonline.com/ design us a logo . We wanted to have a skull put into the original top hat logo. The results turned out to be pretty cool.

Working with 301 was simple and they were very professional. They can take care of all your needs in the softball world, whether you need a bat, glove, shoes, or uniform.

We are very pleased with the shirts that we have now. Kudos to Nate and Chantry for their hard work to get these beauties done and to us.

I Love Slowpitch

August 13, 2009 by softballguy22
I have been playing slowpitch softball for twenty years now. I have played at nearly every level, recreation or competitive. I love to play tournament ball the most. League is fun but can wear you down with weekly trips to the field. With tournament ball, you usually travel to a location and are done during a weekend.

Some tournaments are a little more extensive. When I travel to world tournaments, I will usually leave a couple of days prior to the tournament to get acclimated to the climate. For instance, in 2000 the world tournament for NSA Super World was held in Rock Hill, SC. I am from Utah, the altitude is totally different. We flew out to South Carolina on a Tuesday. Took batting practice on Wednesday, then golfed and batting practice again on Thursday. By the time that Friday (when the tournament started) came around, we were ready to play.

The best part about tournament ball is the trips that you get to take. Even if it is just an overnighter to Las Vegas, memories are made and fun is had by all. One trip that was really memorable was a trip to Steamboat Springs, CO.

Our team rented a cabin and set up with a simple beanbag game called Cornhole. The idea of the game was to throw beanbags from 20 feet appart and try to land them on the board or in a 4″ hole. We bought a keg of beer and played that game, everyone making teams, untill the we hours of the morning for three days and nights strait. It was almost as if softball, the purpose for the trip, took a back seat to this new game that we had discovered.

We ended up winning the championship of the tournament, but whoever won the Cornhole Tournament was the real victors. Ever since that tournament, we have taken that game with us everywhere. There is not much more fun than softball, beer, and Cornhole in one weekend.

I will continue to blog the many adventures surrounding the softball world. Telling stories and half truths as I see them. Feel free to comment and contact me if you have any cool stories to share.
